WHAT WOULD YOU DO?

It’s a “What Would You Do?” Wednesday.
LORD MAY WE LIVE EACH DAY AND HOUR, IN SUCH A WAY, THAT WE WILL BE PREPARED TO GREET YOU INTO OUR LIVES. AMEN.
I want to share with you a poem whose original author is unknown and I changed a little for my word to you today. I call it: “What Would You Do?”
If Jesus came to your house to spend a day or two. If He came unexpectedly, I wonder what you’d do. Oh, I know you’d give your nicest room to such an honored guest, And the food you’d serve to Him would be the very best. And you would keep assuring Him you’re glad to have Him there…But…when you saw Him coming would you meet Him at the door with arms outstretched in welcome to our heavenly visitor?
Or would you maybe change your clothes before you let Him in, Or hide some magazines and put the Bible where they’d been? Would you turn off the radio and hope He hadn’t heard, And wish you hadn’t uttered that last loud and nasty word? Would you hide your worldly music and put some hymn books out?
Could you let Jesus walk right in or would you rush about? And I wonder ….If the Savior spent a day or two with you, Would you go right on doing the things you always do? Would you go right on saying the things you always say? Would life for you continue as it does from day to day?
Would your family conversation keep up its usual pace? And would you find it hard each meal to say a table grace? Would you sing the songs you always sing and read the book you read? And let Him know the things on which your mind and spirit feed? Would you take Jesus with you everywhere you’d planned to go?
Or would you, maybe, change your plans for just a day or so? Would you be glad to have Him meet your very closest friends, Or would you hope they’d stay away until His visit ends? Would you be glad to have Him stay for-ever on and on. Or would you sigh with great relief when He at last was gone? It might be interesting to know the things that you would do, If Jesus, The King of Kings, came in person to spend some time with you.
Beloved, what would you do?

  1. This reminds me of a story of an old woman who was told by God that He was coming to visit. She cleaned and baked and prepared the best feast for Him. She got a knock at door and eagerly opened the door only to find a beggar asking for just a crumb to eat. She cursed him and told him the food she prepared was for God, not a beggar and shooed him away. She waited patiently for half the day for God’s arrival and again there was a another knock at the door. Finally she thought, God is here and can partake of this wonderful food and can see how immaculate my house is for Him. At the door appeared a traveler, tired and weary from days on the road. Can I please come in to rest. How dare you ask to be in the home the Lord will visit. You are not worthy and again she shooed him away. Impatiently now she waited and some what angered that God Himself had her wait most of the day, she got another knock at the door. Finally she thought He has arrived!!!. With excitement she threw opened the door only to find a tattered sobbing old woman who asked if she had the time to listen and help with some worries she had. Furiously she cursed her, told her I don’t have time to hear your pitiful story, the Lord will be here shortly and I dare not have someone like you in His presence and slammed the door in the woman face. Mid night fast approached and the woman thought about all the preparations and cooking she made earlier and her time and efforts she made for the Lord. Unworthy people bothering her, begging for her time, food and the nerve to want to sit in her immaculate house!! Most of all He had her wait on Him!!! She thought of all the things she could have done that day…. but no, not even a call or text to say He would be late!!! Deeply angered now she cursed God and asked Him how He had the nerve to not show up. I took one day out of my life to show you how much I love you and this is how you repay me? The Lord simply answered her.. I showed up at your door 3 times today and 3 times today you turned me away. The moral of the story…. is what this puts on your heart…. Write your own moral….. My God Bless each and every one of you.
