GOD BLESS A COP

May 9th                                          It’s a “God Bless A Cop” Day

LORD WE ASK THY BLESSINGS TO BE UPON THE SOULS OF ALL LAW ENFORCEMENT BOTH NOW AND EVEN FOREVERMORE. AMEN.

This is the time of year when organizations and people involved in law enforcement take the time to appreciate each other, remember their fallen members and pray for those who are still active as peacemakers. Now as a Master Police Chaplain who has been sworn to serve with the police departments of the City of Chester, PA, Chester Township, PA, Marcus Hook, PA and as the President of the Law Enforcement-Emergency Services-Chaplains of Delaware County, PA, and the Pennsylvania Representative for International Conference of Police Chaplains, and I take my appointment very serious. I’m called to pray for and counsel officers as well as be there for them spiritually. Yesterday, I asked the question, “When was the last time you thanked a cop?” So today I want to share with you a poem whose author is unknown and dedicate it to all those law enforcement officers who have gone the last mile of the way and now walk the streets of heaven. It’s called:                                                       “JUST REWARD”.

The police officer stood and faced his Maker, Which must always come to pass. He hoped his shoes were shining, just as brightly as his brass.

“Step forward now, police officer how shall I deal with you? Have you always turned the other cheek? To your Maker, have you been true?”

The police officer, with squared shoulders, said “No sir, I guess I ain’t. Because those of us who carry badges can’t always be a saint.

“I’ve had to work most Sundays and at times my talk was rough, and sometimes I’ve been violent, because the streets are tough.

But I never took a penny, that wasn’t mine to keep. Though I worked a lot of overtime, when bills just got too steep.

And I never passed by a cry for help, though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, please forgive me, I’ve wept unmanly tears.

I know I don’t deserve a place, among the people here.
They never wanted me around, Except to calm their fears.

But if you have a place for me here, well…it need not be too grand.
I never expected or had too much, Do if you don’t…I’ll understand.

There was silence all around the room, where the saints respectfully stood.
As the police officer waited quietly for the judgement…bad or good.

“Step forward now, police officer, you’ve borne your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on heaven’s streets, you’ve done your time in hell.”

Beloved, once again I ask you, “When was the last time you thanked a cop?”

Moreover, “When was the last time you asked God to bless a cop?”
