April 7th
It’s a “REACH, TEACH and SUPPORT OUR CHILDREN” Day.
LORD, OUR GOD HELP US TO SAVE THE CHILDREN. AMEN.
One Sunday I was in church all day with a group of young people from Baltimore, Maryland. They are a choir called “The Singing Sensations” under the direction of their founder, my home-girl, Dr. Hollie Hood-Mincey. They are so good and well-mannered that they are a joy to be around. They have performed as far West as Utah, as far East as South Africa, as far South as Trinidad and as far North as Canada. Now these children come from various backgrounds and life situations, some good and some not so good. But I’ve learned in life it’s not where you come from but where you want to go that matters. They sing all aspects of African-American music, Spirituals, Gospel, Contemporary, Rock-N-Roll, and R&B. Yes, you name it they sing it, and they sing it well. Now this is what I have learned from being with them.
(1) Every child born into this world has worth. It doesn’t matter who your biological parents are, we are all Gods’ creation and God don’t make junk.
(2) All children are teachable. All children can learn something if you just teach it in their style of learning. It’s the way you teach them that causes them to learn.
(3) All children need positive direction and financial support. Children learn by seeing what we do and how we live. They pick up our ways and our lifestyles by watching what we do more than by what we say. Also, they need our financial support. As they say, we must put our money where our mouth is.
So I want to commend Dr. Mincey for all she has done for over ten years and what she is doing now to reach, teach and support our children.
“I believe the children are our future, Teach them well and let them lead the way
Show them all the beauty they possess inside, Give them a sense of pride to make it easier
Let the children’s laughter remind us how we used to be, Everybody’s searching for a hero
People need someone to look up to; I never found anyone who fulfilled my needs
A lonely place to be, And so I learned to depend on me
I decided long ago, never to walk in anyone’s shadows If I fail if I succeed
At least, I’ll live as I believe, No matter what they take from me
They can’t take away my dignity Because the greatest love of all
Is happening to me, I found the greatest love of all
Inside of me, The greatest love of all
Is easy to achieve, Learning to love yourself, It is the greatest love of all.”
Dr. Hollie Hood-Mincey gives these children love and teaches them how to love themselves. She is so special to these children. Beloved, who are you special too?
