It’s a “Pray For A Grieving Family” Day
LORD, WE LIFT OUR HEARTS TO YOU AND ASK THAT YOU COMFORT AND BLESS THIS GRIEVING FAMILY. AMEN.
A friend of mine, in my hometown, several years ago went through a very difficult time in her life. She had lost her son because he was caught in the crossfire of a shooting and died. Then the day of her son’s repast, his four-year-old son, her grandson, was hit by a truck and died.
This mother, these grandparents, these relatives, this family, had been shaken to the core. I’m sure their faith was shattered; their hearts were beyond broken, and their trust in God was on the brink. What can we do as humans to make them feel less pain and feel better? How do we minister to them? What should we do? What should we say? When and how shall we say it?
- The old Saints would say that God puts on us no more than we can bare, but try to explain this to the family.
- They say all things work together for our good, but try to explain this to the family.
- They say that God is too wise to make a mistake, but try to explain this to the family.
- They say The Lord will make a way somehow, but try to explain this to the family.
- They say that God is a God of Justice, but try to explain this to the family.
- They say that trouble doesn’t last always, but try to explain this to the family.
- They say that God is good all the time, but try to explain this to the family.
- They say that Jesus is weeping with them, but try to explain this to the family.
- They say that time heals all wounds, but try to explain this to the family.
- They say that nothing can separate us from the love of God that we have in Christ Jesus, but try to explain this to the family.
- They say that God will answer their prayers, but try to explain this to the family.
- They say that God is a bridge over troubled water, but try to explain this to the family.
- They say that time heals all wounds, but try to explain this to the family.
- They say that this too will pass, but try to explain this to the family.
- They say we’ll understand it better by and by, but try to explain this to the family.
So the more I thought about it and the more I talked about it, the more I realized that the best thing we can do for any grieving family is to pray with them, for them and to stand most times silently by their side. When the pain is more bearable, and the dark clouds seem to fade, they will be more open to all that I have said. So on behalf of all grieving families, I say, “Thank you for joining me and praying for them!” AMEN.
