“HAPPY FATHER’S DAY”
LORD, WE THANK YOU FOR BEING OUR HEAVENLY FATHER AND BLESSING OUR EARTHLY FATHER. AMEN.
Last Sunday we celebrated Father’s Day. A day set aside to give special tribute to all fathers especially the good ones. Seldom do we give good fathers the recognition that they deserve, we are so busy praising only mothers. But fathers are just as important as mothers. You see, the family is much better when the fatherly image is portrayed, and the children have a good father to emulate. I have been blessed to have three daughters: Catrina, Robin and Janee’ and three grandchildren: Sinai, Aaron, Jr. and McKenzie.
Fathers too are loving, kind and full of compassion, and they demonstrate it through loving care for their children. God thought enough of mothers to introduce his Son to us through a mother. He thought enough of fathers to give birth to a woman, by extracting a portion of Adam to make Eve the woman. On top of that, God is symbolized as “Father.”
It seems that properly honoring fathers is fastly becoming a thing of the past. Fathers are taken too much for granted and shoved into the background of family affairs, while mothers get almost all of the affection and credit for everything. Fathers want to be loved as a part of the family too, not just as the money – maker for the family, but as a part of the family. Don’t just take their pay checks and say good-bye to them. We should love them and make them a part of the family. Father’s hands are still the gentle and strong hands that make the family complete, guiding, helping, teaching and giving the feeling of family security that a child needs so very much in order to grow into well-balanced maturity. Wives may work and help to provide for the family, but they are most happy when their husbands work to provide security for the family.
It is my prayer that each daughter and son reading this message would express their gratitude in some way toward their father and let him know that he is still the object of their love and affection. Make a pledge to make him feel like somebody and bring gladness to his heart and a smile on his face. You may not yet realize how deep your father’s love is for you, and you may not fully understand the strength that is in his guiding hands, but as you grow older, you will come to understand and appreciate his love and how it has helped you.
Yes, Fathers, this is your day, whether you are biological fathers or fathers some other way. Now I’m talking about worthy men. Men who have demonstrated profound faith in God and genuine concern for their family. I’m talking about a father who cares for his family and shares with his family. One whom his children respect and are proud to call him Dad.
Somewhere along the way, there is a severe breakdown of both manhood and fatherhood and brothers we need to do something about that. We need to assume our rightful role as men. We need to do our best to foster both manhood and fatherhood and be good husbands.
Children are proud of and believe in a loving father who cares for them, one to whom they can express their inner feelings. No matter how short in physical stature, children see dad as being strong, courageous and brave. No matter what kind of job he has, children find ways to glorify his profession and see his efforts to provide for the family as noble work. No matter how he looks, children visualize dad as being handsome and just the man for mom.
In any case, Father means strength and understanding. It means one who spends his life serving, giving and sharing of himself toward the happiness of his family. His love is as real as his smile.
So to all Fathers, I say “May God Bless You and May You Have a Happy Day.”
I pray that we will be what God would have us to be and do what God would have us to do. For those fathers who have gone on before us, it is my prayer that we will meet them in Heaven.
WHAT MAKES A DAD
God took the strength of a mountain,
The majesty of a tree,
The warmth of a summer sun,
The calm of a quiet sea,
The generous soul of nature,
The comforting arm of night,
The wisdom of the ages,
The power of a morning in spring,
The faith of a mustard seed,
The patience of eternity,
The depth of a family need,
Then God combined those qualities,
When there was nothing more to add,
He knew his masterpiece was complete,
And so, He called it……Dad! (Author Unknown)
