ENTHUSIASM

April 13th                           It’s an “Enthusiasm” Day

LORD HELP US TO KEEP THE JOY WE HAD FOR JESUS WHEN WE FIRST BELIEVED. AMEN.

The day Jesus rode into Jerusalem was a very triumphant one.  He came in as a humble King and the crowd was enthusiastic about his reign. They wholeheartedly accepted him as their King and they demonstrated their enthusiasm.  For they cried out,   “Hosanna to the son of David; blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord; Hosanna in the highest.”  They tore down palm branches and waved them. They even made a welcoming carpet on the road with their coats. They were probably called “fanatics” by the religious establishment and curious onlookers. You know, it is important to keep our enthusiasm for Christ alive. For I believe some of those same folk who shouted “Hosanna” shouted “Crucify Him,” five days later. And many of us today have lost our enthusiasm for Christ. Now most of us when we accepted Jesus as our Savior did so enthusiastically. But then some of us allowed Satan to get in the way and gradually our joy, vibrancy and faithfulness dwindled. We begin to deal with Jesus with a cold attitude and before we know it the excitement is gone the parade is over and the joy bells cease to ring.   But then, there are others among us who have kept the excitement and increased their enthusiasm. They are still faithful. They are still active. They can still say, “Everyday with Jesus is Sweeter than the day before.”

My brothers and sisters, it is of the utmost importance that we as Christians keep our enthusiasm for Christ alive.   Many of us in the Church have lost our Enthusiasm not because we’re upset with Jesus, but because we’re upset with one another. But you don’t go there to pass the Deacon and Deaconess test.  You don’t go there to pass the Trustee or Choir test. You don’t go there to pass the Ushers or Missionaries test.   Nor should you go there to meet the Pastor’s requirements.  No, you should be a Member of the Church because you have been born again and you are enthused about doing God’s will. If you’re enthused about Jesus you go to Church on time.  If you’re enthused about Jesus you don’t fuss and fight. If you’re enthused about Jesus you’ll want to do things right.   If you’re enthused about Jesus you don’t point the finger and talk behind folks back!  If you’re enthused about Jesus you don’t talk about the problems you do something about them by using your God-given talents. And I want you to know that we have a lot to be enthusiastic about. We can be enthusiastic about the past, looking back realizing that God has brought us from a mighty long way. We can be enthusiastic about the present because: We are members of the world’s greatest team. We are involved in the world’s greatest cause. We are strengthened by the world’s greatest power. And the world’s greatest leader leads us. Moreover, we can be enthusiastic about the future because: One of these days, the troubles of the world will be over. One of these days, the wicked will cease for troubling. Yes, one of these days the weary shall be at rest.

Today we join the crowds in Jerusalem, shouting “Hosanna!!” A month from now, a year from now, a decade from now, an eternity from now, MAY WE ALL STILL HAVE THAT ENTHUSIASM FOR CHRIST OUR KING?
