DON’T KNOCK MY PRAISE

March 7th

It’s a “Don’t Knock My Praise” Day

LORD, OUR GOD, AND OUR FATHER WE THANK YOU TODAY FOR WHAT YOU DO FOR US EVERYDAY. AMEN.

I once participated in a Men’s Day service at Asbury AME Church. During the service there was a well-choreographed praise dance and even though the dancers were all doing the same thing each one had their style of doing it. One was making all the moves with much precision; another was doing them with a lot of soul and feeling, but there was one who was doing the moves like the majority but was crying and shouting the whole time she was dancing. Now as I was watching them I realized I was observing various forms of worship. They were doing the same thing but with a different style.

Well just as their dance style was different so is people’s worship and praise style. There are people who attend certain churches because the service lasts less than an hour. You see they feel you don’t need 2 to 3 hours in church. They will tell you in the famous words of Sweet Brown,”Ain’t Nobody Got Time For That!”

Then there are some who attend a church where they don’t say amen nor do they dance or shout. They just sit there wearing all of their finery listening and acknowledging the SPIRIT and WORD of GOD by nodding their heads. They will tell you in a New York minute when it comes to dancing, shouting and speaking in tongues; it doesn’t take all of that.

Then there are some who go to church and don’t worry about the length of the service. They sing long songs, dance like a fool all over the church, shout hallelujah as if they are out of control, they say Amen a million times and just get ugly praising GOD. Now, they will tell you for them it takes all of that because of what GOD has done for them. Beloved, what I’m trying to say is, don’t knock anyone for his or her style of praise. You don’t know their relationship with GOD. You don’t know what they have been through and how GOD has brought them through.

You see, my story is not your story, and your story is not mine. Therefore, your praise is not my praise, and my praise is not yours. Don’t tell me how to thank HIM for what HE has done for me and I won’t tell you. So all I have to say is this: “When it comes to Praising GOD don’t worry about how I do it. You just worry about you. As ‘Nike’ says: “Just Do It!” Are you doing it?
