MATCH YOUR LIPS AND HIPS

January 18th

It’s a “Match Your Lips and Hips” Day

LORD, HELP THE LIGHT OF YOUR WORD SHINE IN US BY OUR WORDS AND OUR ACTIONS. MAY OUR SERMONIC WORDS BECOME REAL BY THE WAY WE LIVE. AMEN.

The story is told of a young man who at the last-minute was invited to preach at a local church down the street from where he works. On an impulse, he used as his texts, “Thou shall not steal.” The next morning he stepped on the bus and handed the driver two dollars in bills. The driver handed him back his change. He stood in the rear of the bus and counted the change. There was a dime too much. His first thought was, “the bus company will never miss this dime.”

Then he quickly came to the realization that he could not keep money that did not belong to him. His spiritual integrity was on the line. He made his way to the front and said to the driver, “You gave me too much change.” Then to his surprise, the driver replied, “Yes I gave you a dime too much. I gave it to you purposely. You see, I heard your sermon yesterday, and I watched you in my mirror as you counted your change. Had you taken the dime I would never again have had any confidence in any preacher or any other Christian. Your actions today have strengthened my faith and my confidence in others who call themselves Christians. Now I want to be one.”

Beloved, you never know who is watching or listening to us. If this young preacher were not honest to his preached word, one soul would have been lost to the Kingdom of God over a dime. As believers, we must remember it is more important to walk the walk than talk the talk.

Folk want to see a sermon rather than hear one. The issue wasn’t so much the dime; no the issue was the honesty of the young man to his sermon. People may doubt what you say, but they will always believe what you do. Remember we all preach sermons by our words and actions but to reach others they must match. So the question of the day is: “How are you living? Do your words match your actions? Do your lips match your hips?”
