LIVE BY YOUR WORD

March 19th

It’s a “Live By Your Word” Day.

LORD, WE THANK YOU FOR THIS DAY, AND WE ASK THAT YOU GUIDE US TO BE HEARERS AND DOERS OF YOUR WORD. AMEN.

There are many wise sayings that my grandmother would always say, and I will never forget. I not only try to live by them, but I have taught them to my children. Here are two of them and I’m sure they are familiar to you. “Treat others the way you want to be treated.” and “Let your word be your bond.” These are two principles of life that I try to live by each and every day.

The first is Bible-Wit and the second is Mother Wit. The first one is so important that JESUS taught it in His classroom up in the mountain when His disciples and the crowd were His students that day. It can be found in Matthew 7:12. I believe all of us want to be treated a certain way and therefore we should treat others that same way. It creates justice and fairness within our society.

The second one is basic common sense. To deal with other people in this life, they must be able to trust you. Now the trust is built by you doing what you said you were going to do and in most cases, all people can do is go by the word that you give them. Yes, how you treat others and your word in most cases is how other people judge you.

Now when some folk don’t live by these principles, they get mad with you when you confront them about their actions. Let me give you an example. I have a cousin who always wants to borrow money from me but never has money to lend me. I tell her I’m not a bank and I don’t like lending money because that can ruin a relationship. But I feel sorry for her, and I lend her the money anyway. When I give her the money, she is all smiles and promises me she will pay me back in a week. Well, four weeks went by with no money and no call about the money. So I called her, and she gets mad at me for asking about the money and then gives me a bunch of excuses. All I could say was, “Wow. God bless you too and have a nice day.”

Beloved, I need my money as the bank, the mortgage company, and the utility company. By the way, she also tried to hurt my feelings by saying she would never ask to borrow money from me again (LOL). I thought that was cute because that’s what I wanted her to say. As another saying goes, “You get me once, shame on you but if get me twice, shame on me!” I probably won’t get my money, but I believe that GOD will bless me because I treated somebody the way I wanted to be treated.

So my questions of the day are: “How do you treat other people?” “Do you live by your word to others?” Better yet can you say, “LORD TREAT ME TOMORROW, THE WAY I TREAT OTHER PEOPLE TODAY?”
