WHY WE HAVE FUNERALS

It’s a “Why We Have Funerals” Saturday.
LORD WE GIVE YOU PRAISE BECAUSE WE CAN WALK THROUGH THE VALLEY OF THE SHADOW OF DEATH AND FEAR NO EVIL BECAUSE YOU ARE WITH US. AMEN.

Today I have the opportunity to help a family say farewell to their mother. In all my years as a Pastor I don’t know what is the hardest on a family, to say goodbye to a parent, a mate, a sibling or a child. It all depends on the closeness of the family and the place the loved played in that family structure. One thing I do know is we all must bury a loved one if we live long enough. Just like each of us is different in various ways so is the funeral of a loved one. We have different coffins, flowers, programs and different people attending. Now a funeral is really only required for the mourning family who are left behind and not the deceased. You see no matter what you say to or about the person laying in that coffin things will not change for them. So Rev why is a funeral required for the living? I’m glad you asked that question my friend.

1) The funeral allows the family and friends to honor and reflect on the life of the deceased. It gives us time to tell our loved ones history and contributions to this world. It also gives us an opportunity to say our last farewell.

2) The funeral allows us to feel, see and have the support of family and friends. You see in times like these you realize that you can’t make this journey called life alone. In times like these you realize that you need a shoulder to lean on, a hug and a word of comfort. Being with other family and friends during the service helps us deal with our grief, hurt and pain.
3) The funeral gives us an opportunity to give GOD praise for the life we shared and to seek HIS grace, mercy, comfort and healing. I’m a witness and I know, from first hand experience, the only way to get through the loss of a love one is to ask JESUS to carry you through. Prayers, praise, the preached word and singing the songs of Zion are what you need. Can I get a witness? Songs like: TAKE MY HAND PRECIOUS LORD, ONE DAY AT A TIME,so I can be NEARER MY GOD TO THEE, yes JESUS KEEP ME NEAR THE CROSS, and give me your AMAZING GRACE because I need that BLESSED ASSURANCE so I can say IT IS WELL WITH MY SOUL you see if MY SOUL IS ANCHORED IN THE LORD one of these days I’LL FLY AWAY yes I’m GOING UP TO YONDER to the SWEET BYE AND BYE and WHEN WE ALL GET TO HEAVEN WHAT A DAY OF REJOICING THAT WILL BE, WHEN WE ALL SEE JESUS WE’LL SING AND SHOUT THE VICTORY. Somebody, Somebody, I said Somebody Give Me an AMEN Up In Here, Up In Here!!! Now the SPIRIT OF GOD is telling me that somebody reading this message is getting their praise on. Is it YOU?
